There is a youtube vid with a guy spraying his cube.  Aparently it's really cool afterwards.  I have sprayed most of my cube mods, and then hand painted the plastic plates afterwards.  Looks good.

I paint most of my cube mods and use 2 coats of paint then 2-3 coats of spray laquer.  It hasn't peeled yet.

As for metallic paint, I wouldn't.  I got a set of cubesmith metallic stickers and in most light it is difficult to tell apart the red / orange faces and the silver / gold faces.  This makes for a severe penalty when speedcubing.

Yeah, I really wish they would just paint the little cubies.

Several of the stickers on mine came off. (I used nail polish to repaint it, it's shiny and I love shiny!)

It could, and may, very easily be done, but the paint may just chip off over time. I think they stick to stickers (lol) so that cubes won't look horrible after a few months.
