store bought vs DiY

Postby solverphil » Mon Feb 07, 2011 1:26 am

Just wondering what else I can do to make my store bought rubik's cube smoother. (It's 6 years old and I've lubricated it using silicone spray (jigaloo) and it is very loose and fast, but it always pops and it locks up)

Honest answer - nothing, I'm afraid.

Storeboughts cannot be adjusted. The most you can hope is to make them smoother with lube - something you've already done. As for lockups and pops... I'm sorry. That's one of the reason that pro-cubers don't use storeboughts. They usually go with one of the DIY cubes out there.

Rubiks.com do sell DIYs, but I can't comment on how good they are as all the rubiks 3x3s I own are storeboughts and all the DIYs are other brands. Not a matter of preference, it's just gone that way.
Please take off topic discussion off this forum. Thanks.
