Cube for speedsolving

Postby LightKage » Thu Apr 21, 2011 12:45 am

Hi, some months ago I bought a rubik cube from a local store and started playing with it. The cube was ok while I was learning how to solve it, but it has always been hard to turn its faces and usually I have to turn the faces perfectly, otherwise I cannot turn another face because it locks.

I am now in search for a new cube. In several pages people have recommended a DIY one, so I was thinking on the Rubik's 3x3 White Assembly Kit. After some search I have seen recommendations on cubes classified by type A, B, ... , E. Can someone explain me what are the differences between them? I also have seen other brand cubes that have been recommended, like cube4you, lubix and another one that escapes my mind. What brand do you recommend guys?

Thanks in advanced

Sergio

All the different cubes have a slightly different advantage to them, and a disadvantage. Without going into too much detail, the F cubes are probably what you are looking for. The F type is very smooth and does not catch corners like a regular Rubik's store cube.

I use a Dayan GuHong. I don't know a lot about what cubes speedcubers use but I know that Feliks Zemdegs also uses a guhong. Another good cube I would recomend is a Dayan LingYun.

Get the Haiyan's Cube or if you are willing to pay for quality, get the Ultimate Lubix Guhong.

Anything DaYan is great. Felix set the WR 5.66 with a DaYan V (can't remember it's name, it was just released). I personally would go with the LingYun. The GuHong is uncontrollable at times until you get used to it.

I highly recommend cube4you. It is quite smooth. I have been using cube4for for a long time. It can be twisted into different shapes. Local stores often offer higher price for cube4you cubes. I got one from a local store. My friend baught it from an online shop. His cube is a little cheaper than mine, but the two cubes are of same quality. So I am going to buy a mirror cube on online shop. Here is the link where my friend baught his cube4you:
