What puzzle is this?

Postby Hubert » Tue Jul 05, 2011 12:03 pm

I borrowed this rubik like puzzle, and whilst in my car it broke :(
I wish to buy a replacement for my friend, but I have no idea what this puzzle is called or where to start searching for it
Image
as you can see it's very much like the 3x3x3 rubiks cube, it uses the same interlocking mechanism as most other rubiks cubes, the bottom middle piece is like the 3x3x3 edge piece and the bottom right piece is like the corner.

any help would be appreciated, thanx :)

It appears to be some form of truncated cube. I've not seen one exactly the same, but it's related to these ones:

The first pic is your cube made using curved cuts instead of straight ones (and with different stickering). The second is a truncated cube, the last is what your cube becomes if you extend the square centres and those triangular corners.

After spending far too long searching, I found it's patent and its inventor here , and sadly they are no longer in production, but now that I know it's name I'm searching all over the internet for private traders, ebay etc....
