Is lithium grease ok for cubes?

Postby iamop » Wed Oct 16, 2013 1:00 am

I used to use petroleum jelly for my Hasbro cube... till I found out that it destroyed the plastic. I wiped off most of the petroleum jelly, and used lithium grease instead, since the label on the tube said it worked on plastic. DOES it work on plastic? I just bought a Shengshou 4x4 and 3x3 off Amazon, so I want to know if I can use the grease for those cubes.

Not sure about that one. Consensus online seems mixed. I recommend 100% silicone spray lubes. I got mine in the UK, but I'm not sure where you're based. Any decent automotive shop should sell cans cheap. Avoid things like WD40. Make sure it's silicon.

I live in California, and the Hasbro cube I bought was extremely dusty. I ended up cleaning out all the dust before adding petroleum jelly.

Also, I think its ok to use the grease.... hope so...

No offense to the above poster, but he uses petroleum jelly - something known to rot cubes. His recommendation of Lithium grease may not be as useful as first thought. :D
