Help my account is gone!

Postby borginator2 » Sat Nov 24, 2012 8:13 pm

I've had a recent spate of spammers posting from accounts that they made months or even years ago and never used. These people make hundreds of accounts and do nothing with them. Then all of a sudden we get a ton of spam from them.

So... I've removed any account that hasn't ever posted AND not had any activity for a long time. If you visit daily and never post, you're safe. If you visit occasionally, but have posted, you're safe too.

I know I'll remove a few real accounts, but lets be fair... if you've never posted and haven't been here in a while, you probably won't care anyway.

If you have had it removed, feel free to rejoin. Our new registration settings are helping keep spam down. And this pruning shouldn't need ever be repeated.

Thanks

I figured that's why the forum's member count has always been so high. Speaking of that, why is it now: Total members -24830?

I suspect someone reset the clock when they moved over. I'll see if I can fix it...

Looks better now. About 10000 members. It means I pruned about 34000!

Is there any way to exempt myself from the account pruning, as I had already registered before, then found that my account had vanished (along with all my posts), and I don't really want that happening again.

The problem is, I'm generally very busy, so I can't really be too active on the forums. I generally only visit some of my other forums about once every six months, so I cannot log in every day around here.

BTW: I am not a spambot!

Hi, I recommend that you don't post so many messages separately. Instead, just press the edit button on your message and add more to it, instead of sending a second or third message. Doing so is called double/triple posting and is usually looked down upon.
Just stating my opinion. Also, notice how he said "about 10000 members".
lol, here to help ^_~

The pruning was a few months back. Don't worry. It probably won't happen again. :D

That's about when my account vanished :( . But then what can I expect if I only use it once in a while?
