www.rubikssolver.com can help you immensely.  It has detailed diagrams of every turn and scenarios that may occur when you're solving the cube.

As for the letters:

F: Front side of the cube, B: Back side of the cube, R: Right side of the cube L: Left side of the cube U: Upper (top) side of the cube, D: Down (bottom) side of the cube.

A letter standing on its own (ie. L) means turn that face 90 degrees clockwise.

A letter with an I, i or ' after it (ie. RI) means turn that face 90 degrees counterclockwise.

A letter with a 2 after it (ie. D2) means turn that face 180 degrees; it doesn't matter which direction.

Clockwise, counterclockwise, etc. is defined as the direction you turn that face in if you were facing that side of the cube.
