Solving the cross is taking me too long...

Maybe a silly one but lets see what comes back!

My best time is 1:07 (average 1:25) but it takes me on average 12-15 seconds to do the cross at the start....!!!!

I'm using the Fridrich method for the F2L and a mish mash of the algorithms from Fridrich method and the beginner route to finish....I'm happy that as I learn the rest of the PLL and OLL algorithms, I'll knock another 10 seconds off my time. I've read the cross should be done in 5 seconds but I'm no where near this....I seem to fumble it each time making too many moves or having to undo stuff etc...

Anyone got a simple rule of thumb to getting this quickly every time...? I also start with the same colour every time...

Have a set method for solving the cross. Find all of the pieces, then use that approach. See this video by badmephisto for a good, simple approach that can also be done quickly.

I've also heard that a good practice tecnique is to examine the cube for as long as you need, then try to solve the cross pieces blindfolded. This will not only speed up your cross solving, but also help you to solve the cross without looking, or rather, while looking for your first F2L pair (what's called lookahead).

Of course, you also need to get the examination time to 15 seconds or less, as that's the maximum in a competition.

Study it for ten minutes.........then do it! Should have it by then.
Resistance is futile.........so play with your cube!
