How to get your cube more lubricated

Postby Npham » Thu Feb 14, 2013 3:37 am

Hey, I was just wondering how to get your rubiks cube more lubricated. I know I should have bought a dayan but, just to me, i just say=use it till it breaks. i should know you you can use vaseline or silicon, but what else?

ADMIN SAYS: No You can't use vasseline. It rots cubes. Please do not say it can be used for this reason.

Silicone spray, silicone/differential oil, and Lubix are all good options.

For most cubes:
Take out an edge piece
Spray the silicone (one or two squirts) or you apply a few drops of oil/lube.
Put the edge back in and turn all faces a couple of times to work it in.
You might want to then repeat the process for the edge directly opposite the one you just took out. (e.g. If you took out yellow-green, take out white-blue now)

I've got some questions about the lube they sell here.

What kind is it? How much is there? How many applications will it do? How long does it last?

Here are two more videos. This one shows ways to use silicone spray. This one shows how to use Lubix; differential oil can be used this way too.

Not exactly. WD40 contains petroleum, which will rot your cube like vaseline.

You might be able to clean out extra using tissue or something. I accidentally did that once, expect it was on a bad cube.
Also, overlubing is worse than using the wrong type, imho. Overlubing could result in glued faces (if you don't turn enough after) or just a slower cube.
