## Let's get Sub-20 !

Discussion about methods, times, and all things related to solving the Rubik's brand products.

### Re: Let's get Sub-20 !

If you're using a Rubik's brand cube or just one that turns slowly then maybe you should switch to a faster one.
Also, lookahead would help and try to memorize the rest of the PLL before moving on to more OLLs.

I've been practising looking ahead a bit, although I should probably try a bit more. I'm using a Dayan Guhong; it isn't the cube that's slowing me down.
I've tried the PLLs from cubewhiz, and I can't really memorise them. Which website would you say has the easiest PLLs to remember (for N and G)?

The speedsolving wiki has a whole bunch of different algs for each PLL, so you get to pick the one you like. Also, be sure to watch a YouTube video on recognizing the G Perm because memorizing them using arrow diagrams take too long. http://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/PLL (Don't forget to scroll down).

### Re: Let's get Sub-20 !

Thanks for the link! It's really useful, and I've learned them all now. But even with an average under 40s, I still only get sub-30 every 10-15 solves, and I get over 40 every 7-8. How could I get less over 40s without going onto the next section (looking ahead/F2L tricks), and eventually get more sub-30 than over-40? Would you just say practise the PLL/2lOLL algs until I get faster?

I average 40 sec with like 8 sec cross 22 sec f2l 3-5 sec 2 look oll 8-10 pll.
My best is 26 with a last layer skip.
With inspection I can only usually plan out 2 pieces of my cross because I have trouble seeing where pieces will go after puting in one edge. I cant even start looking for my f2l pair.
What would you recommend to improve below 30 sec average. I am currently working on lookahead.

Well, try the blindfold cross thing, where you try to solve the cross blindfolded. I usually get 3 pieces but all 4 is the best of course.
For the F2L you'll probably want lookahead practice. As you get faster at that, your fingertricks should naturally become more developed.

Also, when practicing, take more than the fifteen seconds to plan some or all of the cross, if you need to.

Make sure that you can recognize your PLL cases quickly. If you have problems seeing which situation you have, look for patterns. Patterns can be pairs of pieces, such as a corner and an edge, or two corners with the same color facing the same way. Those are only two examples; there are other patterns.

You can get a Dayan cube or some cube4you DIY, that will speed up a lot. Remember that it is not the cube it's the cuber. You can learn Fridrich method, we can surely get sub-15 if we practice it. So all the best

I recommend a Dayan GuHong: Admin edit...Sorry, no links to a rival brand. I don't mind the recommendations, but have to draw the line somewhere. It glides wonderfully and moves really fast. I like mine.
